PROPERTIES / APPLICATIONS :-
Calcium Stearate is the main stabiliser in the production of non - toxic articles e.g. potable water - supply piping. The main property of this , is its internal and external lubricating action , for which it is used in PVC as well as in other plastics processing . It is used as a mould releasing agent also. Calcium Stearate exibits excellent resistance to colour degradation at elevated temperatures and is useful where higher temperatures are encountered during processing.

Calcium Stearate also find uses as: -

1. Non toxic stabiliser and lubricant in PVC industry.

2. Lubricant and acid acceptor in polyethylene , popropylene , polystyrene and A.B.S. processing.

3. Water proofing agent in asbestos , paper , and fibre industries.

4. Anti caking agent in fertiliser.

5. Additive for paint and varnish.

DOSAGE :-
In those cases where Calcium Stearate is incorporated in PVC as main stabiliser a level of 1.0 - 2.0 phr is recommended. When used as a lubricant in lead stabiliser system , 0.3 - .05 phr is suggested.
